RULES

Haxfootball is a 4v4 red vs blue game that takes place on a 120 yard field.

Each patch between the lines represents 10 yards.

The game is divided into two halfs each consisting of 12 minutes for a total of 24 minutes.

The winning team is decided with who has the most points.

Kickoffs

The game begins with a red kickoff to blue.

1. If the ball reaches the sideline before reaching the endzone, the ball will be placed at the 40 yard line.

2. If the ball goes out of bounds in the endzone, the ball will be placed at the 20 yard line.

3. If the ball touches an opponent, he is the selected player. The selected player will move as far as he can to the endzone until he is touched by an opponent. Once he is touched, the ball will be marked on that yard line.

4. If the opponent touches the ball in the endzone and he is touched there, it is a touchback. If the opponent at anytime is out of the endzone and goes back in as the selected player and is touched, it is a safety.

5. In the case that the ball is hit by two players concurrently and is undecidable as to who is the “selected player,” then the ball will be placed at the 20 yard line.

Offense

An offensive team can have any combination of positions but must have and is limited to one quarterback during each down, excluding special team downs.

1. To start a down, the offense must be lined up behind the line of scrimmage. Following that, the quarterback must say “Hike” to initiate the play.

2. Once the play is in process, the offense is allowed to pass the line of scrimmage, excluding the quarterback.

3. The quarterback then can either hand off the ball for a run play, or he can pass it to one of his offensive players.

4. To hand off the ball, the quarterback must flash a teammate while touching them that is behind him and behind the line of scrimmage.

5. To pass the ball, the quarterback must kick the ball without dragging it. For the pass to be complete, the ball must be first touched by a teammate while the ball is in bounds. If the ball is touched by both teams at the same time, it is considered complete.

6. The ball is out of play at any time it touches the sideline. This includes players.

7. An offense gets a total of 4 downs to move the ball 20 yards. Once the ball has been moved 20 yards, another 4 downs will be given. If the 4 downs is exceeded, there will be a turnover on downs and the opposing team will possess the ball atthat spot.

8. Once a selected player reaches the endzone, it is a touchdown and they will be rewarded with 7 points.

9. Once there is a touchdown, the ball will be scored in the goal to start a new kickoff to the other team.

Defense

A defensive team can have any combination of positions on the field.

1. Once the offense starts a down, the defense may try and cover anyone on the offense that crosses the line of scrimmage.

2. The defense must stay 10 yards away from the ball when it is at the line of scrimmage unless a receiver is in the area. In addition, defenders must stay outside of the hashes unless an offensive player is in that area. A defensive player is allowed to be inside the “crowding zone” before the snap if an offensive player is between the hashes, but must leave the crowding zone if the offensive player goes out. Any infliction of this rule will be a 5-yard penalty.

3. After fifteen seconds without a decision from the Quarterback, the defense may blitz. It is considered a blitz once the defensive player has broken the 10-yard restriction area when there are no WRs closer to the ball, but the QB cannot run until the defender has crossed the Line of Scrimmage. This makes the Quarterback the selected player and is eligible to run.

4. To tackle any selected player, simply touch them. Once they are touched, they are down. To cause an incomplete pass you must touch the pass before the offense does while the ball is inbounds.

5. To intercept the ball a defensive player must hit the ball, after a pass, into a goal post without any offensive or defensive interference with the ball. The player must stay in bounds in order for it to count. The ball may not be hit again by the defense but the offense is allowed to prevent the ball from going between the goal posts, which would result in an incomplete pass if the offense is successful in preventing the interception. The ball must cross the plane created by the FG posts fully for the interception to count. If the interception is successful the defensive team will go on offense at the previous line of scrimmage.

Punting

At any down an offensive team may choose to punt.

1. To start a punt, the receiving team must be in their own end-zone. The punting team must all be behind the Line of Scrimmage. Once the ball is kicked, both teams may pass their locked areas.

2. If the ball is punted out of bounds, the ball will be placed where it hit the sideline.

3. Once the ball hits a player, he is the selected player. The ball will be placed wherever the selected player is touched by a defensive player or wherever the selected player goes out of bounds first, unless it is ran for a touchdown.

Field Goals

At any down an offensive team may choose to go for a field-goal.

1. To start a field goal, the defending team must move out of the way of the ball.

2. In order to recieve 3 points from the field-goal, the kicking team must kick the ball from the spot of the ball without dragging while only having one kicking team member touch the ball. The entire ball must cross the FG plane (plane between the two posts) at the very least in order for the FG to count.

3. If the ball does not go fully through the goal posts, the team will be rewarded with no points and the opposing team will take over on downs. The ball will be placed at the spot of the kick.Ball SpottingThe ball is to be spotted in the same place a player was ruled down. The front tip of the ball represents where the front tip of a player was ruled down.

Penalties

1. If a kickoff goes out of bounds before reaching the end-zone, the ball will be placed at the forty yard line.

2. If a player is off-sides after a play is started, it is a five yard penalty. This penalty can be accepted or denied and can have a that play continue with the penalty. Off-sides can either be called at the time it occurs or after that play. Off-sides can be challenged.

3. If any defensive player touches the ball at the line of scrimmage, it is a five yard penalty. (If any offensive player touches the ball at the line of scrimmage it is a loss of down)

4. If a defensive player is within the hashes at the time of the kick, the FG will be evaluated as auto-good. If a player is on the hashes but not inside this penalty does not apply. (Note: The ref can pause the game when they are positive the kick will not be good while the ball is still moving and allow for players to touch the ball and move it)

5. If a player enters the ten yard boundary from the ball at scrimmage or goes in between the hashes, there will be a five yard penalty and a re-do of the down which the penalty was called on. The penalty can be accepted or denied.

6. If a player leaves their locked area before a punt is kicked, there will be a ten yard penalty. The penalty can be accepted or denied.

7. If the offense does not hike the ball within 15 seconds of a new down after the ball has been placed, there will be a five yard penalty. This includes the start of a field goal kick. On a FG, the ball will be moved back 10 yards and time will be added to the half.

8. If a player spams the chat or argues with a ref, there will be a fifteen yard penalty, and if necessary, an ejection from the game/room.

9. If a defensive player blitzes, enters 10-yards and between the ball without a WR in that area, before the play has been played for at least 20 seconds, there will be a penalty. This penalty can be accepted or denied and can be challenged.Time1. In the game room, the time limit is to be placed at 14 minutes. However, the game is to last 12 minutes. The booth ref is to tally the time wasted from timeouts and stall attempts only. For timeouts, the time added will be the time from the timeout to the snap of the next play. For stall attempts, the time added will be from when the stall occurred to the snap of the next play. Time is not to added for the time used for placing the ball.

Challenges/Timeouts

1. Each team receives 1 timeout per half and overtime. Timeouts do not roll over from half to half or from half to overtime.

2. As long as a team still has their timeout, they can challenge a play’s ruling. If the team that challenges gets the challenge correct, they will not be stripped of the timeout and will be allowed to continue to challenge plays until they lose a challenge. If the challenging team loses the challenge, a timeout will be removed and they will not have anymore timeouts or challenges. Teams can challenge as much as possible until they lose a challenge.

3. A booth review can occur when the two refs disagree on a call, or want to make sure they got the right call. There will be no penalty if a booth review is initiated to either team.

4. The booth ref is responsible for reviewing challenges and booth reviews, and the field ref can help only when needed.

5. The plays that can be challenged are as follows: where a offensive player is ruled down, if an offensive player caught the ball while in bounds and before a defender touched the ball, if an offensive player dragged the ball while attempting a throw or a FG, if a defensive player dragged the ball in an interception attempt, if the QB flashed and touched another offensive player at the same time while behind the Line of Scrimmage, off-sides, and early blitzes.
